Auto Collision-Is it mandatory to report to my auto insurance?

On Wednesday, I got rear-ended by a drunk driver who accepted full liability before being carted away to the pokey. We duly exchanged insurance info and I’m retaining an attorney next week. The CHP made a report also. Do I still need to contact my insurance or can my attorney take care of that? Strictly speaking, my insurance card states “to make a claim” which I am not doing since clear liability vests with the other driver.

I would still call them and tell them about the incident. They will be able to direct you as to what you should do next…especially if there was damage to your vehicle as a result. It can’t hurt to let them know what’s going on. They’ll decide what they need to know and what they don’t.

You should report to your insurance co.as soon as possible.Do you have police present during this accident.Who is right who is wrong can not depend on your judgment. You need police report. You need your insurance co.fight for you in case other part balm on you.

there is not need to report this to your insurance company unless you want to file a claim. if the other person involved has taken full responsibility and has valid insurance coverage then just let their insurance cover your loss. any claim put on your policy stays for about 5yrs and can affect your rates.plus, if you have a lawyer your insurance company won’t talk to you; they want to talk to your lawyer.

in some cases the other party won’t have adequate coverage to cover you loss; but your lawyer will look into that for you. good luck

You agreed when you signed for the insurance to notify them of any accident, whether or not you are at fault. Let them know, chances are they can contact the other insurance on your behalf and get your damages taken care of. Or go ahead and retain an attorney you probably don’t need, and give him a third of whatever you get, your choice.
