Auto Insurance – preventing auto renewal?

Hi, all. My car insurance policy with State Farm ends this January. Normally, the company automatically renews my policy, however I don’t want it to be renewed this time (I’m selling my car and will no longer need insurance). How do I go about preventing them from renewing my policy? Will they charge any fees? Should I let them know not to renew in writing or just call? Thanks in advance!

Note: I don’t want to just not pay the following bill in order to rid of my insurance – I don’t want the insurance company to cancel my policy (as it will hurt my chances of receiving auto insurance in the future, should I need it then) or have my credit score hurt because of it.

Call or visit your SF agent and tell him/her not to renew. You’ll probably be asked to put it in writing to protect yourself and the agent/company. If SF renews it anyway, you’re clear with the request in writing.

It is very straight forward to stop a renewal you will receive you rnwl docs probably about 18days before the renewel. It will say on the docs what you have to do to stop the renewal. They should not charge any fees because you are cancelling the rnwl and not the policy. Ring them to stop the renewal most companies record their telephone calls and make a note of the time and date you rung them. Or write to them and you maybe able to send recorded delivery so that somebody has to sign for the letter when it is received by the Insurance co. I am in the UK but hopefully the process is very similar

Just call them and let them know you will not be renewing. The matter should be solved after that.

Simply call them and cancel it to be effective at the end of policy term. Just tell them you are selling the car

Just call Your agents office, explain that you want the policy to cancel on the renewal date. Explain why so that they code the cancellation the right way (if you state requires it be reported). It’s simple!
