No I don’t think that’s possible you need a car to get auto insurance, there isn’t a general any car I drive insurance plan.

I suspect you will have to get insured on one specific car, and then your coverage should cover you when driving other autos.

However, it will probably be different from state to state as well.

Any agent can provide you with what is called a “Named Non-Owner’s” automobile policy. It provides the purchaser liability while you are driving any non-owned automobile. Although the standard auto policy “follows” the car and provides coverage for any driver given permission to drive it, many people do not want to rely of the auto owner’s insurance – for various reasons. The perfect example is someone who has a standard umbrella policy that requires underlying auto limits of 100000/300000/100000. If you were to drive someone’s car who had, say, 25000/50000/25000 limits and had a bad at fault accident, then you might very well face a “gap” in coverage of $75000 – the difference between the coverage provided and the coverage needed for the umbrella to kick in. Many people have assets which they do not wish to put at risk by relying on others to do the right thing. It has been a long time since I’ve seen a non-owned policy, but the cost use to be a reasonable percentage of a regular auto policy. Somewhere around 25 or 30% if I recall. Good luck.
