Today I was backing out of my garage driving a pickup truck, well the garage door wasnt opened up all the way and the roof of the truck hit the garage door and bent it all out of wack plus the dents in the back of the truck. Would this fall under my auto or homeowners policy?
Homeowners.
call your car insurance first and they can tell you which one should cover it.
Auto for the car, homeowners for the garage door.
Both. On the auto policy, your liaibility pays out for other people’s damages. Since you damaged your own property, you’ll claim on the homeowners for the garage door and auto (collision coverage, if you have it) for the truck.
This is an auto claim (repair your vehicle); it’s a homeowners claim for the damage to the door. The reason: because you can’t claim damages against yourself.
The damage to the house falls under your homeowners insurance and the damage to your truck would come under your collision coverage on your auto policy. You also get to pay both deductibles!! You may want to check and see what the cost is going to be before turning in the claim on the homeowners policy. Many people carry 1000 deductibles on their homeowners so the cost of the garage door may be less than your deductible
