How long does it take for an auto insurance claim to clear you record?

I currently have USAA and back in Nov 2005 I hit a piece of tire on I-25. The tire ripped out my wheel well cover and took the electrical system with it. I made a claim that came out to 1K including my deductible. When trying to change insurance this claim came up and uppped my 6 month policy by 300 dollars. It is not on my DMV driving record, can I still get the cheaper insurance thru progressive.com? Thanks a bunch.

most company’s look back 5 years. Progressive I know only looks back the last 35 monhts. So I would wait until 10/2008 to switch to progressive.

depending on the company they go back 3-5 yrs. this doesn’t show on your DMV record BUT it does show on your CLUE report. i believe Progressive goes back 3 yrs so wait until Nov to change and you won’t be charged for it.

Due to the fact it is a collision, it should be coming off your insurance in Nov. 2008.

If this ever happens again, tell them it was kicked back into you by another vehicle or fell off the back of a truck & then you ran over it. This way your not considered at fault.

If it’s on your record now, it sounds like you hit a stationary object, which you are considered at fault for.

Insurance companies surcharge not only for points on your license but also what turns up on what companies refer to as a “Clue Report”. Clue is basically a data bank that insurance companies share information with each other such as claims, etc.

Most companies will not charge for claims that are over 3 years old.

Even though you have a claim on your record record there are still a lot of companies that should provide you good rates. I would suggest checking out http://www.InsuranceEasy.org this is one of the best consumer insurance sites that I have come across.

They offer links to free quoting services that will provide you with the best quotes from hundreds of companies. By requesting quotes from each of the links that they provide on their site, you should be able to save a lot of money. I have a nephew who actually saved around $400 a year using this site.

    Hope this helps!
