I got in auto accident and the person that hit me claimed full responsibility. The person made a left hand turn right into me as I was going straight. This person contacted her insurance immediately and claimed the fault was hers. When i got home I received a call from her insurance company; and they asked that I go thru them directly since she is already admitted to be at fault. This way I don’t have to pay any deductible. So do I benefit more by going thru her insurance or my own????
Since she’s at fault, you don’t have a lot to worry about, so don’t worry. Its good that your insurance company knows about the accident as well as the other person’s insurance company. If your car needs any repairs, the person that is at fault is responsible for the repairs. In this case, that person’s insurance company is responsible for fixing your car. You shouldn’t have to pay a deductible, since this accident wasn’t your fault. If you have any problems, sue that person who crashed into you.
To be Absolutely sure everything goes your way, go through your own insurance company. You may have to pay your deductible but that will be returned to you when your company subrogates with the other company. Going through your own insurance will save you a lot of work and if there is a snag, your insurance company will know what to do.
Since the other company is being very cooperative I’d just go through that company. Getting your company involved means filling out double paperwork, giving double statements, etc. If the other driver’s company asks you for anything, get it to them right away so that if they start stalling you can go to your company within a reasonable amount of time after the accident to get their help if necessary. Going through your company means you’d have to pay your collision deductible and wait until your company gets paid by the other company before getting your deductible back, which can be months.
You don’t have to go through your insurance if the other driver has admitted fault. Their insurance company is going to pay for your damages.
Well, for me, that would depend on what companies I was dealing with. I personally have State Farm – who requires only OEM parts be used, and guarantees the work for life if you go to shop in the service program. If I got hit by a SafeAuto customer, I would certainly go through my own, even though I’d have to pay my deductible, because I would be confident knowing that my car was being fixed correctly. Some of the smaller companies use aftermarket parts, which could diminish the value of your car. If, of course, you have one of those smaller companies too, then just go through them and be done with it.
