I have been with StateFarm for over 4 years now and have a $500 deductible… I recently hit my BMW 325 against a post in parking lot while reversing and damaged my drivers side door and mirror. The replace/repair estimates are around $3K. Until now, I have had good driving history (no accidents/claims) . Does it make sense to file an insurance claim or is it recommended that i pay these expenses out of pocket? Thanks for your help in advance!
wow that was some smack, its your choice, either way, it needs to be fixed
Absolutely file a claim. An at fault accident will affect your rates but not by $2,500. Simple math, file the claim.
You have to estimate what they will charge you over time. While the initial increase might only be a few hundered, you might end up paying more in premiums over time. For instance, in NJ, companies can charge for up to 3 years after a chargable accident.
Yes, it is smart to file a claim. Always file a claim no matter what. It depends on your insurance company. This is considered an at fault accident and the company that I work for would not raise your rates after just one at fault accident. We usually only raise the premium after 2 at fault accidents that cost more than $750 for the insurance company (not including your deductible) within the last 3 years.
